Veterans Day 2011
By Senator Lena C. Taylor
To celebrate Veterans Day this year, I urge all Americans to come together and honor our veterans’ profound service and sacrifice. It is through the dedication of America’s veterans that our country continues stands strong and our founding principles still shine. Our service members have ensured the safety of our country, our interests and our people. Let us offer our sincere appreciation and respect to our veterans and remember all those who have fought to preserve our country’s democracy.
Our men and women in uniform are bearers of a proud military tradition that has been passed forward in our state for more than two centuries. The commitment of Wisconsin’s 28,374 veterans to America and our people has been unfaltering. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our beloved country. America’s veterans are more than soldiers who have fought with determination for our country. They are also teachers. They are engineers. They are doctors and small business owners. They are children and parents.
On Veterans Day, we pay tribute to our veterans and their families. We honor those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and those we hope return soon and safely. Let us continue to remember our veterans, not just on Nov. 11, but each day. Please, thank a man or woman in service today for their dedication to our beloved country.
