Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) would like to notify her constituents that the State Assembly has passed legislation that would give jails broad authority to strip search individuals.
Under Assembly Bill 556, local jails will have the power to strip search individuals who are arrested for violating terms of their supervision, even if it is a minor, nonviolent civil violation.
As a result of this bill, jails will likely have to strip search all individuals in order to avoid any liability issues.
This blatant attack on 4th amendment rights oversteps a boundary that infringes on personal privacy and could result in emotional and psychological trauma.
