South Carolina Fatal Shooting

June 17, 2015, a mass shooting took place during a bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Nine victims were shot and killed including Senator Clementa C. Pinckney of District and Pastor at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. in Charleston. was first elected to the South Carolina General Assembly in 1996 at the age of 23, becoming the youngest African American elected as a South Carolina state legislator. He served in the South Carolina House of Representatives until being elected to the South Carolina Senate in 2000.

Pinckney was also the father to Eliana and Malana Pinckney, and the loving husband of Jennifer Benjamin.

Suspect Dylann Roof was arrested at a traffic stop in North Carolina, one day after the tragedy.

Please keep all the victims of this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers. The other victims include Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, (45), Cynthia Hurd (54), Tywanza Sanders (26), Myra Thompson (59), Ethel Lance (70), Daniel Simmons (75), Depayne Middleton-Doctor (49) and Susie Jackson (87).

Scott Walker's Confederate Flag flip-flop shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, has effected the nation in a dramatic way.  As a State Representative, Scott Walker supported the removal of the Confederate flag from the state capitol building. Yet, as a presidential hopeful, he called it a state issue. I firmly believe that the Confederate battle flag that represents slavery flies in the face of all that America stands for, and it should fly no more. This isn’t an issue just for South Carolina. Black people throughout America are offended by the Confederate Flag. For further information read my press release here.

Affordable Care Act Victory Supreme Court of the United States upheld a court challenge to federal subsidies of state health care exchanges under the federal Affordable Care Act in a 6 – 3 ruling. This decision is a victory for more than 6 million people and a blow to Scott Walker. I know that without access to healthy food, healthcare, a quality education and a job our communities are weakened. As the saying goes, a rising tide raises all boats. The New Wild West

Governor Scott Walker signed in Milwaukee two bills that relax Wisconsin’s gun laws. Having signed these laws in the city with the most gun violence in the state is disrespectful. This is a very serious matter. I strongly support schools banning guns and the 48 hour cooling off period before buying hand guns. If it is left up to Governor Walker and Sheriff David Clark Wisconsin will be turned into the next Wild West. Click here to read my full statement. at it’s Best

Wisconsin is best known as “America’s Dairy” state with $43.4 billion of the state's economy attributed to the production and sales of dairy products. In recognition of June being Dairy Month, Wisconsin counties hosted Dairy Breakfasts across the state demonstrating the positive impact that our dairy producers have on Wisconsin's economy. June Dairy Month is a reminder of Wisconsin's proud dairy history. We produce more cheese than any other state in the country giving us the top ranking of cheese production countrywide. If you missed a Dairy Month celebration, don't worry. Wisconsin's finest dairy products are sold in grocery stores throughout the nation.
