Madison – Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) attended the swearing in ceremony of Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn this morning at 9:00 AM at Milwaukee City Hall, and released the following statement afterwards:
“I congratulate the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission on their unanimous vote to reappoint Chief Flynn.
Reducing crime in our City is a challenge, and Chief Flynn has shown himself to be up to that challenge with community oriented policing and incisive use of crime data.
I also thank Chief Flynn for help raising awareness of the need to increase to a felony the crime of making “straw purchases” of guns for criminals. His willingness to testify in Madison in support of such legislation and his willingness to go after those who are careless about getting guns into the hands of criminals is commendable.
I look forward to working on legislation at the state level to continue to support safer communities with lower crime.”
