Madison – Today State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement in response to the news that aMilwaukee firefighter was shot overnight Sunday while he and other firefighters tended to a patient who had trouble breathing.

“People are right to be angry at this crime. Putting first responders at risk makes us all less safe. That is why I was the lead senate author on a bill last session that would add an additional penalty to those who attack, intimidate or recklessly endangering a law enforcement officer, a fire fighter, a first responder to an emergency.”

Senator Carpenter introduced (SB 211) with lead Assembly co-author Rep. Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee). Sen. Carpenter has stated that he will re-introduce the bill this session. “I hope that my fellow legislators will see the need to pass this bill to help protect those we rely upon to keep us safe,” said Carpenter.
