Madison – Today State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) today repeated his call for the legislature to have a vote on the transportation budget separate from the vote on the general state budget.

“With $1.3 billion dollars in bonding in play, voters clearly deserve to have this enormous amount of money raised and spent on transportation be treated separately and distinctly from the rest of the budget,” said Carpenter.
Carpenter noted that in the past Wisconsin has passed transportation items as a separate bill, instead of including it in the biennial state budget.
“Imagine the careful scrutiny transportation projects would receive – on either the scope or necessity of the projects – if a legislators’ vote on transportation were subject to a separate budget vote,” said Carpenter.
