Free and Fair Elections

The power over government needs to be returned to the people. Out of control campaign spending, partisan gerrymandering, and attempts to change the outcome of fair elections threaten our ability to hold government accountable. I support policies to ensure that our elections are free and fair in order to give the people the greatest power over what happens in our state capitol—not special interests and the very wealthy.

•    Senate Joint Resolution 146 would amend the state constitution to provide the people with a process to propose and enact changes to our state laws and constitution via referendum. Other states have used this power to eliminate gerrymandering, legalize cannabis, protect women’s right to choose, and other popular ideas.
•    SBs 1154, 1155, 1156, and 1157 would reform campaign finance laws to require transparency for contributions and political action committees and restrain overall campaign spending.
•    SB 361 would allow voters to vote for the candidate of their choice during partisan primaries, regardless of political party.
•    SB 362 would allow government issued REAL IDs from any state to be used as identification for voting.
