Welcomes “Field of Honor” Event to Miller Park
Madison – Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) today released a letter signed by 79 Wisconsin state legislators thanking the organization “Stars and Stripes Honor Flight” for its work in helping veterans travel to Washington DC to visit the memorials erected in their honor.
The letter also issues a warm welcome to Milwaukee's Miller Park, where Stars and Stripes Honor Flight will be host to "Field of Honor: A Salute to the Greatest Generation" on August 11, 2012. Senator Carpenter will be attending the event with his niece who served in Iraq, and encourages anyone interested to attend.
The letter states, in part:
It estimated that our nation loses an average of 900 World War II veterans every day. Since its inception, the Honor Flight Network has transported more than 80,000 Vietnam, Korea and WWII veterans to visit their memorials. This event will not only provide an opportunity to thank the veterans who have served our country in person, but also to view a documentary to honor them entitled “Honor Flight.”We take to heart the words of President George Washington, who said "Thewillingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation."In Wisconsin, we will continue to work to make sure veterans are treated with dignity appreciated in our thoughts and actions, and remembered with honor.
