Summerfest 50th Anniversary Honored By Legislature
Madison – Today State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) thanked his colleagues in the State Assembly for passing a resolution he authored honoring the 50th Anniversary this year of Milwaukee’s Summerfest music festival.
Summerfest is a world-famous, annual music festival held at the 75-acre Henry Maier Festival Park along the lakefront in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“Summerfest is a great part of Milwaukee’s history, and I am honored that the State Assembly officially and enthusiastically recognized the exciting upcoming 50th anniversary of this great event,” said Carpenter.
Summerfest begins this year on June 28, 2017.
Summerfest lasts for 11 days and is made up of 11 stages with performances from over 700 bands. Summerfest was conceived in the 1960s by then-mayor Henry W. Maier. Inspired by his visit to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, Maier envisioned a similar festival in Milwaukee.
“I’m honored this Resolution passed the entire legislature so quickly and will be on record honoring and congratulating Summerfest for its first 50 years and wishes its continued success in time for the opening of the festival,” said Carpenter.
