Return of Bigger Medicare Part D ‘Donut Hole’
Gap in Medicare Part D coverage in danger of becoming a bigger burden on seniors.

Madison – Today State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) warned that the gap in Medicare Part D coverage for prescriptions is in danger of increasing.  

The U.S. House and Senate are moving ahead with repealing the Affordable Care Act with no clear plan to replace it. Medicare Part D, after a certain amount does not cover prescriptions. This “donut hole” was on track by the ACA to be closed in 2020, but taking away the ACA would reduce prescription drug coverage, increasing the financial burden on seniors.  

On Monday, the Wisconsin Advocacy Network hosted a rally in Milwaukee County to send a message to federal legislators that changes to federal healthcare law should not increase the burden on seniors who need prescription drugs.  

“The U.S. Congress must protect and save Medicare! My constituents have told me that they are afraid that changes to their Medicare Part D coverage will cause them once again to make choices between affording the medicine they need, or other necessities like food and keeping the heat and lights on in their homes,” said Carpenter.

“At the state level, they are concerned that SeniorCare in in danger of being cut in the Governor’s budget, which is why we must pass Senate Bill 8, the SeniorCare Protection Act,” said Carpenter.
