Madison – Today State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement on the opening of the Wisconsin’s Fisher House Zablocki VA Medical Center.
Congratulations on the opening of the Wisconsin’s Fisher House Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee! A Fisher House is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. There are 70 Fisher Houses located on 24 military installations and 27 VA medical centers. Many more houses are under construction or in design.
I am proud to have the Fisher House in my Senate District, and as the ranking member of the Senate Veteran’s Committee, I’ll be attending the opening of the Fisher House tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 2016.
The Milwaukee VA Fisher House is just over 13,000 square feet inside with 16 bedroom suites. Veterans and their families have access to well-stocked kitchens and living rooms, complete with a library and toys for children. Trained staff and volunteers are available to assist all Fisher House guests.
I will continue to fight to improve the lives of those who are serving, and have served in our armed forces. They have served us, and we are honor-bound to acknowledge their sacrifice with our actions.
