Madison – Today State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) welcomed and congratulated the new Mexican Consulate which will officially open in Milwaukee on July1st.

The consulate will serve 53 counties in Wisconsin as well as 12 counties from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

“Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport now has nonstop flights with six destinations in Mexico. Further, Mexico is one of Wisconsin’s largest trading partners, and a Mexican Consulate in our State will increase convenience to visitors and residents in our state,” said Carpenter.

Prior to the opening of the Milwaukee Consulate, Mexican residents in Wisconsin had to be served by the consulate in Chicago.

One of the main services that the consulate will offer is documentation, including passports, consular IDs and voter registration cards as well as offering advice in legal rights.

“I am honored to represent the Third Senate District with the largest number of Latinos in the state, including many with roots in – and family from – Mexico. I am glad a new resource for them has opened in our city,” said Carpenter.
