Safer Roads
Our neighbors and visitors in our community deserve to feel safe while using our roadways, whether they are driving, biking or walking.
I support legislation that would help combat reckless driving and car theft. From surveys that I have done through my office, I know that the residents of our district want an “all of the above” approach to fixing this issue, which is why I supported the following legislation:
• SB 65, signed into law as Act 46, allows local government to authorize law enforcement to impound a vehicle used in reckless driving.
• SB 1111 would increase penalties and restrictions for drunk driving convictions.
• SB 375 would allow automated red light and speed enforcement cameras to find violations of traffic signals and speed limits.
• SB 433 would invest in local traffic calming measures to reduce traffic speeds.
• SB 659 would require a vehicle to be equipped with a speed limiter if an individual is convicted of a reckless driving violation twice within 5 years.
• Investments in this session’s budget of $12 million to go toward increases for Driver’s Ed., and over a $50 million increase for aids to local road repairs.
