Legislators Introduce Joint Resolution to Establish ‘MVP Week’ in Wisconsin

MADISON– Senators Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay), Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee), and LaTonya Johnson (D-Milwaukee) and Representatives Kalan Haywood (D-Milwaukee), Daniel Riemer (D-Milwaukee), and David Steffen (R-Green Bay), the six State Legislators representing the three major professional sports venues in Wisconsin, released the following statement on their circulation for co-sponsorship of a Joint Resolution establishing the first week of December 2019 as MVP Week in Wisconsin:

“There’s no question that Wisconsin has a unique place in sports’ history. Some of the most talented players in professional basketball, baseball, and football have played for a Wisconsin team, and 22 times, have earned their league’s MVP award while wearing a Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Braves, Milwaukee Brewers, or Green Bay Packers uniform. The three most recent MVPs in Wisconsin, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Christian Yelich and Aaron Rodgers, all just so happen to celebrate their birthdays in the first week of December on the 6th, 5th, and 2nd, respectively.

“To celebrate their recent success and the long history of excellence in Wisconsin professional sports, as Legislators representing the three major professional sports venues in Wisconsin, we’re introducing LRB 3560 to declare the first week of December 2019 as MVP Week in Wisconsin.”

The deadline for co-sponsorship is the close of business on July 9th. A draft of the Joint Resolution is attached to the release.
