COVID-19 Response Bolstered by Bipartisan Effort

GREEN BAY– Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) released the following statement after voting in-favor of 2019 Assembly Bill 1038, which passed the Senate today on a bipartisan vote in response to the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak in Wisconsin:

“Like the rest of the country, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our state like we haven’t experienced in our lifetimes. The bipartisan legislation passed by the Senate today is a measured approach that supplements recent federal action as we look to lessen the blow on households with changes to unemployment benefits, businesses by expanding the Work-Share program and having WEDC work on a plan to support the reopening of our economy, schools by extending deadlines and waiving certain requirements, patients by expanding healthcare coverage protections, and local governments by extending deadlines for required meetings and actions.

“I was pleased to support this important first step, and I will continue to look for ways that I can do my part to help our community get through these difficult times.”

Earlier this week, Senator Cowles released a statement on a provision in the bill to provide accountability and oversight in the response to the COVID-19 outbreak response through the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau which is overseen by the Joint Legislative Audit Committee that Senator Cowles co-chairs.
