Gov. Walker signs Interstate Medical Licensure Compact into law

MADISON- Today, Governor Walker signed Assembly Bill 253 into law. The bill ratifies and enters Wisconsin into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. This provides Wisconsin doctors with a streamlined process that allows physicians to become licensed in multiple states, while expanding access for Wisconsinites. Senator Cowles co-sponsored the legislation and released the following statement on its signing:

“Assembly Bill 253, the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, allows Wisconsin’s high quality doctors and medical professionals to become licensed in an expedited multistate license compact. This eliminates the unnecessary burden for doctors who want to practice medicine in other states from having to go through timely licensure processes multiple times. In addition, this legislation opens the door for greater access to quality healthcare and new innovative health care solutions like telemedicine and expedited second opinions from top-rated doctors. I am proud to have co-sponsored and supported this legislation to improve access and innovation of health care in Wisconsin”
