The Week of September 7, 2015
The Wisconsin Legislature's 2015-2016 legislative session began on January 5, 2015. The schedule of floorperiods is established by Senate Joint Resolution 1. The most recent regular floorperiod, scheduled to last until budget passage, has been adjourned; the extraordinary session convened as of July 7 to take up the budget bill, the Bucks Arena proposal, as well as several other proposals, has also been adjourned. The Legislature is not scheduled to return to the floor until mid-September.

Special Election in September
Primary Results. Unofficial results show that Republican Cindi Duchow won the special election primary on September 1 for the 99th Assembly District. A total of four Republicans were on the ballot. No Democrats have filed to run. The governor issued Executive Order #171 declaring a special election in the 99th Assembly District, Senator Kapenga's former seat, to be held on Tuesday, September 29. Recently Introduced Proposals
2015 Assembly Bill 329, introduced on September 3, would establish a process for removing nonfiscal policy items from the budget.
2015 Assembly Bill 328, introduced on September 3, would change the procedure for redistricting of legislative and congressional districts.
2015 Senate Bill 248, introduced on September 3, would delete requirements from the law related to strip searches.
2015 Senate Bill 245, introduced on September 3, would prevent state government from returning federal funds to the US government without the approval of the Legislature, if expenditure of the funds would increase employment in the state.
2015 Assembly Bill 325 and Senate Bill 244, introduced last week, would allow a school board president of a common, union high, or unified school district to appoint a person to fill a vacancy on the board if the rest of the board does not take action on the vacancy within 60 days.

As of Friday, September 4, several committees have scheduled public or informational hearings for this week. The Joint Legislative Audit Committee will hold a hearing on the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation on Wednesday. Check the committee schedule for updated information throughout the week.
