Capitol
Changes
Decembers of election years are very busy
around the Capitol as returning legislators and legislators-elect
prepare for the upcoming session. The 2015-2016 legislative
session will begin on January 5, 2015, when all members of the State
Assembly, half the State Senate, and Wisconsin's partisan constitutional
officers - Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary
of State, and State Treasurer - take the oath of office.
As many members of the Assembly are
retiring, there has been a fair amount of office shuffling. My
Capitol office is now Room 214 North,
on the second floor behind the North Hearing Room, which is on the same
floor as the Assembly, Senate, and Supreme Court chambers.
However, my PO box mailing address and office phone numbers remain the
same.
I am happy to announce that Mary
Reis will be my new legislative
assistant, starting January 5. Mary currently works for retiring
Rep. Don Pridemore. She will be in charge of constituent
relations, so she will most likely be the "voice on the other end of the
phone" when you call my office. Matt Pulda
will continue as my research assistant.
December is also when committee
assignments for the upcoming session are announced. I will once
again be chairman of the Assembly Committee on Family Law,
and I will be returning as a member of the Energy and Utilities,
Judiciary, Small Business
Development, and Transportation
committees, too. I have also been appointed to serve on the
Mining and Rural Development
committee. (I previously served on the Jobs, Economy, and Mining
committee, which is now split into two committees).
Christmas and
New Year's
In observance of Christmas and New Year's, my Capitol
office will be closed Wednesday, December 24, though Friday, December
26. The office will also be closed Wednesday, December 31, and
Thursday, January 1.
As I mentioned in my last E-Update, if you're traveling for
the holidays, you may
want to check out the Department of Transportation's Travel Information
website, www.511.wi.gov, which
includes a road conditions map.
We wish you a Merry
Christmas
and a Happy
New
Year!
