JFC APPROVES HISTORICAL EDUCATION PACKAGE FOR K-12 SCHOOLS

On Monday, August 28, the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) approved the largest increase in state history to K-12 schools with $639 million dollars in new funding over the next two years. The education budget provides an additional $200 per pupil this school year and $204 per pupil next year. The goals of this biennial budget were to put more money directly into classrooms, retain and reward great teachers, and ensure effective education for all Wisconsin students regardless of where you live.

Next week, JFC will meet to finalize the remaining aspects of the budget, specifically the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, before it is sent to the Assembly floor for a vote in the middle of September. I would like to thank JFC members for their hard work and commitment through the summer to craft the education funding package for the 2017-19 biennial budget.
