Assembly Bill 113

On Wednesday, the Governor signed Assembly Bill 113 that was authored by Representative Ballweg and co-sponsored by Senator Olsen.  This bill changed the statutory definition of the boundaries between Green Lake and Marquette counties to match what the counties and landowners already recognized.

It's That Time of Year Again

In Wisconsin, the annual nine-day gun deer hunting season is upon us.  Hunting in Wisconsin is a time-honored tradition that has brought together family members to create memories that will last through the years.

This year through legislation we have encouraged changes to bolster the billion dollar sporting and hunting industry in Wisconsin.

One change is that we made sure the gun deer hunt will always begin the third weekend in November.

More changes came about in the Sporting Heritage Bill which requires the DNR to provide online hunter/trapper education courses and allow school boards to award a 1/2 a credit to a student for completion of a hunter education course.  The DNR must also create a program that rewards people who recruit new hunters with a reduced fee game, fish, trapping or patron license.

Yet another bill was Senate Bill 228 which allows people to carry un-encased firearms in their vehicles (cars, trucks, ATVs, boats, etc) so long as they are unloaded while the vehicle is in motion.

Many positive changes have come about this year and I am excited to pass them along. If you have any questions about anything in this article please contact us or the DNR and have a safe and enjoyable hunting weekend in beautiful Wisconsin.

In related hunting news the DNR is warning hunters to watch for cougar.  A cougar is roaming central and northern Wisconsin. The DNR asks that if anyone sees the cougar to contact the nearest DNR office or file a report through the agency's on-line rare mammal observation form.

Below is information that may be helpful in your hunt this year.

Governor Walker Invites Youth to Decorate the State Capitol Christmas Tree

Today Governor Walker asked art teachers, parents, and youth all across Wisconsin to help the State of Wisconsin decorate the Capitol Christmas Tree. The theme of the tree this year will be Honoring 163 years of Wisconsin’s Veterans.

“As the holiday season comes, I am excited to announce that the Christmas tree displayed in our State Capitol will have homemade ornaments created by Wisconsin’s youth,” said Governor Walker. “I am hopeful we receive ornaments from all across Wisconsin so that we are able to showcase the diversity that makes up our great state. I invite all Wisconsin residents to stop by the Capitol and view our state’s holiday display.”

The 2011 Capitol Christmas Tree was located by a DNR warden in the Brule River State Forest area. The DNR is arranging delivery with a local trucking company and the exact delivery date has yet to be determined due to deer hunting considerations but will be finalized soon. The tree will be put up in the Capitol Rotunda, lit and start to be decorated on Monday November 28th and will be completed by Friday December 2nd.

Teachers or students interested in displaying ornaments on the tree must make their submissions by December 1, and the ornaments must be based on the Honoring 163 years of Wisconsin’s Veterans theme. The ornaments can be mailed to:

Wild Rose Elementary Students visit the Capitol

It's always such a pleasure to meet with school groups from our area at the State Capitol.  This past week, 4th and 5th graders from Wild Rose School visited the Capitol.  As you can see from the picture above, I heard from many inquisitive students and I hope they had a great time.  If you're planning a visit to the State Capitol, please let my office know!
