Joint Finance Executive Sessions to Begin JFC executive sessions are scheduled to begin next week on Wednesday, April 15 and Friday, April 17. These executive sessions are when each individual issue in the governor's budget proposal is discussed and voted on by the committee.
On the Docket for Wednesday: Interview with WisconsinEye This week I was happy to do an interview with Steven Walters, a renowned reporter from WisconsinEye. We discussed several topics including small business, rural schools, and the biennium budget.

Microbeads to be taken up in Assembly I am proud to announce that AB 15 regarding the manufacturing and sale of products containing microbeads is going to be taken up on the Assembly floor next Tuesday, April 14th. Microbeads are tiny, non-biodegradable plastic particles that are used in some personal care products and are often so small that most municipal water treatment systems are unable to filter out the beads, leading to a large accumulation especially in our Great Lakes. Recognizing this problem and responding to shifting consumer demands, today many manufacturers have already begun to voluntarily phase out microbeads, instead opting for natural substitutes such as apricot and other fruit particles, oatmeal, or other biodegradable ingredients. This bill is meant to find the balance of providing needed environmental protections while recognizing the good-faith efforts of leading manufacturers who have already begun voluntarily phasing out this ingredient. The bill will also provide assurance to Wisconsin consumers who can be confident that the products they chose to buy are not having unintended consequences on our natural resources. AB 15 unanimously passed the Assembly Committee on Environment and Forestry in mid-February and successfully passed through the Senate in mid-March. Great Season Badgers
Although it was a tough loss on Monday, we could not be more proud of how the Badgers Boys Basketball team finished off their season. A fantastic win over Michigan State to take the Big Ten Championship Title, breaking the streak of an undefeated Kentucky, and gaining a spot in the NCAA Championship game that hadn't been achieved for Wisconsin since 1941 truly made for an inspired season.
