School Groups Visit State Capitol

One of my favorite activities as your State Senator is welcoming school groups to our beautiful State Capitol building. I had the privilege to welcome and meet with elementary school students from Horizon Elementary of Pewaukee on March 21st and 22nd.

If you are interested in visiting our State Capitol, please visit my website at farrow.senate.wi.gov, where you will be able to obtain information and directly contact the State Capitol Tour Desk. I look forward to meeting you during your visit to Madison.

Kouhel Participated in Senate Scholar Program

Adam Kouhel, a junior at Waukesha North High School, was selected to attend the 2013 Senate Scholar Program. The Senate Scholar program is a week-long educational opportunity offered by the Wisconsin State Senate to High School students throughout Wisconsin.

Throughout this past week, Adam and his fellow Senate Scholars met with members of the legislature, had discussions with Legislative service agencies, and attended conferences on Wisconsin politics and government.

Adam is the 9th Senate Scholar from the 33rd Senate District and is the first from Waukesha North High School to participate in this highly selective educational program.

Two Bills Authored by Farrow Pass Senate

On Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Senate passed two bills that I had the pleasure to author and usher through the legislative process. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of my colleagues who supported these pieces of legislation and I look forward to having them signed into law by Governor Walker.

The first bill passed by the Senate was Senate Bill 35, which will allow a Wisconsin based transmission company to take advantage of a developing market and in turn create jobs here in Wisconsin. This bill provides small changes within current law to streamline and update the state’s transmission citing process and provides citizens more timely information. The bill received bipartisan support throughout the legislative process, having been passed unanimously by the Senate Committee on Government Operations, Public Works, & Telecommunications, and was passed by a vote of 32-1 on the Senate Floor.

The second bill passed by the State Senate was Assembly Bill 15, which will create a work-share program in the State of Wisconsin. It was passed by the Senate with a vote of 18-15. This piece of legislation will enable employers and employees to better survive the natural business cycle. Through the implementation of a DWD approved work-share plan, employers will be able to reduce the hours of their employees instead of laying them off, leaving them eligible for unemployment insurance. It also will potentially save the Unemployment Trust Fund millions of dollars and allow employers to retain skilled workers when there is sliding demand for their goods and services.
