WPR: Wisconsin
Senate Dems Unveil Agenda For Upcoming Session |
The state Senate's two top
Democrats unveiled their party's legislative agenda for the next
session Thursday, highlighting proposals they say will help
Wisconsin's economy and the middle class.
Many of the bills, however, will face an uphill battle in a
Legislature controlled by Republicans.![](http://legis.wisconsin.gov/eupdates/sen32/Photos/Blueprint%20Shilling%20Hansen.jpg)
Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling unveiled the so-called
"Badger Blueprint" at the Brown County Courthouse in Green Bay.
Shilling said Republican priorities in recent months have
focused on things like John Doe laws and the Government
Accountability Board. She argued constituents care more about
the economy.
"Nobody ever came up to me and said, 'Sen. Shilling, I think
dismantling the Government Accountability Board is a good idea,"
she said.
Shilling and Assistant Minority Leader
Dave Hansen said their
party's focus in the next session will be on restoring aid to
public schools, infrastructure, and holding down interest rates
on student loans. Hansen acknowledged that agenda will be hard
to get through.
"We may be polar opposites, because I think we are representing
the constituents of our state," he said.
The next session begins Jan. 7.

Students
encouraged to apply for
Senate Scholar Program |
The Wisconsin State Senate Scholar Program is now accepting
applications from high school students ages 16 to 18. The Senate
Scholar Program is a week-long educational program offered by
the Wisconsin State Senate that provides high school students
with a hands-on, up-close view of the Legislature’s role in our
democracy. Senate Scholars gain experience in many diverse areas
such as policy development, constituent relations, and
processing legislation by working with senators, legislative
staff and University of Wisconsin faculty.
Students in classrooms across our state today will go on to be
the leaders of our future. Encouraging young adults to learn
more about our government and get involved at an early age has
always been a goal of mine. This program is a great way for
students to see how our government functions and gain valuable
hands-on experience. In recent years, several Coulee Region
students have had the opportunity to participate, and I
encourage local students, schools, and teachers to learn more
about this valuable program.
Information about this program and the application process can
be found online at
www.senatescholar.com or by contacting Dr. Tammy Wehrle,
Legislative Education and Outreach Officer, at (608)261-0533 or
tammy.wehrle@legis.wi.gov. All applications for the 2016
Senate Scholar program are due by January 3, 2016. Students can
apply at any time and have their application considered for
future programs if they aren’t immediately accepted. While this
is a highly competitive program, each Senate district is
allotted a minimum number of participants.

Owners Jeff and Sue Ritter have been selling fish at local
grocery stores for years, but as of October 1st, 2015, customers

the Ritter's Market signature carp jerky. So if you’re looking
for some delicious seafood this season, make sure to stop by
Ritter’s Fish Market! An official grand opening for the new
