Fitzgerald Will Vote Against Job-Killing Budget
Challenges Democrats to Make
Job Creation #1 Priority

It may come as no surprise to those following the budget proceedings this year that I plan to vote against the 2009-2011 budget bill when it comes before the Senate later this month. We’re in a recession and a record number of people are losing their jobs every month.  It’s a no-brainer that the number one priority of your elected officials on all levels of government should be maintaining and creating jobs by attracting and retaining employers in our state. 

Unfortunately, under the leadership of Governor Doyle and Democrats in charge of both houses of the Legislature, there is a much different set of guiding principles, and it isn’t creating jobs or improving the economy.

Major criminal sentencing changes are being considered through proposals included in Governor Doyle’s budget bill. The government’s core function of protecting our communities will be greatly compromised if these measures become law.
