Appearance on Newsmaker Sunday |
Did you catch me yesterday on Local Five’s Newsmaker
Sunday? I sat down with Tom Zalaski to discuss many
current legislative issues, including the
Leading on Lead Act,
the recent Wisconsin State Highway Program Audit,
Wisconsin’s energy future, and more. To watch the
segment, click on the image below.

Highway Program Audit Hearing |
On Wednesday, February 22nd, the Joint
Legislative Audit Committee, which I Co-Chair, held a
hearing on the Wisconsin State Highway Program Audit.
The hearing revealed that the Department of
Transportation is working on sweeping changes in the
administration of highway construction projects. While
the indications from the hearing are positive, as a
committee we are working on legislative changes to
assist the Department of Transportation, while holding
them more accountable to the taxpayers of Wisconsin.
To learn more about the audit, read my
press release
or view the
audit highlights.

Commemorating the Life of John Glenn |
On Monday, February 20th, I introduced a
Senate Joint Resolution for co-sponsorship to honor the
life of an American hero, John Glenn. As a member of
Congress, a veteran of the United States
Marine Corps, and the first American to orbit the Earth,
John Glenn exemplifies the ideal public servant and a
true patriot. I am proud to have 21 of my colleagues
joining me through co-sponsorship in honoring his life.
The Resolution is on the calendar to be voted on
tomorrow.

St.
Norbert College Historic District |
On Thursday, February 23rd, the Wisconsin
Historic Preservation Review
Board approved the St. Norbert College Historic
District. St. Norbert College was founded on the banks
of the Fox River in
1898,
and has continually proven vital not only to higher
education, but to community building in the city of De
Pere and the greater Green Bay area. I personally know
the impact this college has on the community, with two
of my staff members, Jason Mugnaini and Toni Herkert
having graduated from St. Norbert College.
This District consists of 10 buildings on the campus’s
historic core dating back to 1890, including the St.
Joseph Church, a high Victorian Gothic style chapel
constructed in 1890, and the Main Hall, a Romanesque
style building constructed in 1903. This District will
help to further identify and commemorate the historic
core of the campus while the college and the community
continue to grow. I was happy to write a letter of
support for this request which will help to preserve and
promote part of Northeast Wisconsin’s history.

Civil Air Patrol Meeting |
Last month, I attended a meeting of the Brown County
Civil Air Patrol and learned more about the services
this nonprofit auxiliary wing of the Air Force preforms,
including promoting aerospace education, developing
Wisconsin’s youth, and responding to local emergencies.
During the meeting, Captain Chris Thetreau,
the Commander of the Brown County Senior Squadron of the
Civil Air Patrol awarded me the honorary rank of Major
in the Legislative Squadron. Thank you to the Civil Air
Patrol for hosting me.
