In the District Martin Luther King Jr. Day fdafdsafds Falls Players Community Theater Presents The Diary of Anne Frank On January 20-22 the Falls Players are presenting The Diary of Anne Frank, a 1956 play adapted from Anne Frank's now famous diary. It is the story of a young Jewish girl who lived in Amsterdam during the Holocaust. While hiding in a small attic, Anne kept a detailed diary of her life and wrote in it until her family's hideout was betrayed. The diary was later recovered and turned into this touching play that relives her experience and the tragedy of the Holocaust. Snowmobile Safety Class The snow is slowly arriving and snowmobile season comes with it. If you don't already have your snowmobile registered or your private residence registered for snowmobiling, you can do so online here. All snowmobiles must be registered before they can be taken out on public lands and trails. If you were born after January 1, 1985 and do not have your snowmobile certification, Black River Falls is hosting a safety class on Monday, January 23 Reminder: FAFSA If you have a high school senior looking at colleges, you know that costs for attending post-secondary school are on the rise. Federal financial aid can be a huge help toward paying tuition at universities and technical colleges. In order to get all of the aid that your student qualifies for, you have to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available for the 2012-2013 school year starting January 1, 2012. Even if your high school grad isn't sure that they want to attend college, filling out the FAFSA early will help you get as much financial aid as possible if they do decide to go. You can sign up for a MyFSA account here. Once you have an account, the FAFSA website will walk you through the process of filling out the application. It also offers a College Savings Calculator which estimates the amount of financial aid that your student will receive. Click here for more information about federal financial aid. Reminder: Winter Safety ReadyWisconsin.wi.gov Launched by Wisconsin Emergency Management and the Wisconsin Citizen Corps, Ready Wisconsin is an online resource to help folks prepare for major weather emergencies and other disasters. The website teaches preparedness and is updated with important public service announcements. Ready Wisconsin asks individuals to help themselves prepare for emergencies by getting an emergency supply kit, creating a family emergency plan, and staying informed about appropriate emergency responses. As our roads become slippery and icy once again, I wanted to pass along a few safety reminders for driving in this weather. These winter tips are from the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation: - Clear snow and ice from all windows and lights before driving. - Leave plenty of room for stopping. - Don't use your cruise control in wintry conditions, even if the road seems clear. - Do not pump anti-lock breaks. "Stomp and steer" instead. - Go slow and brake early. It takes more time and distance to stop in adverse conditions. Read more safe driving tips here. If you are planning to travel long distances this holiday season, be aware of the weather and winter storm warnings. You can see the driving conditions of major roads, traffic delays, and winter travel times here. |
