Assembly Republic Leaders Request New DOT Estimate

Oconto County Receives WEDC Funding

Tax Season Begins

Assembly Republic Leaders Request New DOT Estimate

Today Speaker Robin Vos, Majority Leader Jim Steineke, and I sent a letter to the Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Dave Ross requesting new highway estimates from the department.

The request is in response to the released report on the State Highway Program by the Legislative Audit Bureau that showed the department underestimated the total amounts on previous projects over the past 10 years.

In our letter, we requesting the following from the department:

 A full review of the cost estimates for all ongoing mega and major highway projects that are planned or budgeted for the 2017-19 and 2019-21 biennia
 A review of all project proposals not yet enumerated
 A comprehensive report on all projects since 2010 documenting the estimated costs and the total actual costs.

We are asking that the department reports back to the Legislature with the new estimates or a confirmation of the original estimates by March 15th.

Our role in the Legislature is to ensure the final state budget serves the entire state of Wisconsin and we need to be confident in the estimates we are given. I hope a review of these projects will confirm that the projections are correct, but if that is not the case, we need to be informed so future taxpayers are protected.

Oconto County Receives WEDC Funding

This week Oconto County received $25,000 from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to go towards local entrepreneurship efforts and business development.

Lt. Governor Kleefisch and WEDC's Mark Hogan presented $25,000 to Oconto County's Economic Development Executive Director Paul Ehrfurth.

The funding will go to back a number of entrepreneurial supports, including a mentor network to help new business owners, access to technical assistance for entrepreneurs, and strategy development for local businesses. These efforts have been spearheaded by local stakeholders and are a testament to the economic progress in northeast Wisconsin. I’m proud that Oconto County has worked to create a plan for future economic prosperity.

Tax Season Begins

Wisconsin's tax season officially began on Monday, January 23. Due to a legal holiday in Washington, D.C., this year's individual income tax filing deadline will be Tuesday, April 18.

Wisconsinites are encouraged to use Wisconsin E-file to file state income taxes.

Wisconsin E-file is a free, fast, and accurate online tool that does the required math to prevent errors and allows direct deposit or withdrawal from your bank account.

A listing of free tax help sites across Wisconsin and the ability to check the status of your refund are available on DOR's website and mobile app. DOR's website is found at www.revenue.wi.gov. The mobile app is a free download from the Apple or Android app stores. Both link to DOR's video center for information on e-filing, free tax help, and tax credits.

Taxpayers with questions can submit them online or call DOR's individual customer service line at 608.266.2486.
