A Note from Rep.
Macco
This past week the
Wisconsin State Senate passed Right to Work legislation. Next week is the
Assembly's turn to debate and consider this legislation. A lot of folks have
reached out to my office for and against this policy. Before voting for this
legislation,
I want to hear from YOU.
Take
this short survey here, and your responses will be recorded.
Additionally, you can always email or call the office and I will take your
thoughts into consideration this next week.
Road Construction Updates
The Wisconsin
Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region office in Green Bay
is announcing US 41 Project lane restrictions for March 2 – March 6 in Brown
County. Drivers should be aware of 11-foot wide lanes and reduced speed
limits. Please remember to use caution while traveling through any work
zone. Details of all closures are included below.
US 41
Drivers should anticipate various overnight single lane closures on
southbound and northbound US 41 along the entire Brown County corridor from
south of Glory Road to Lineville Road. Lane closures can vary along the
corridor, so drivers are urged to stay alert, pay attention to road signs,
slow down and use caution when entering any work zone. The US 41 Project
plans to have at least one lane of traffic open at all times on both
northbound and southbound US 41 during construction. This does not include
closures by local authorities for accidents or unusual incidents (such as
weather).
I-43/US 41 interchange
Northbound US 41 ramp to southbound I-43 will close Monday, March 2 until
August 28, 2015. The six-month closure is needed to construct new US 41
northbound lanes. Drivers are urged to plan an alternate route prior to the
closing. No signed detour route will be in place. In addition, northbound
and southbound I-43 between Atkinson Drive and US41 single lane closure will
continue through summer 2016.
Local Roads – Velp Avenue
• Eastbound and westbound Velp Avenue between Riverview Drive and Melody
Road will have single lane closures NIGHTLY, Monday through Friday.
• Eastbound and westbound Velp Avenue under US 41 will be closed Tuesday and
Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for partial demolition of bridge over Velp
Avenue. Traffic should seek alternate routes.
• Southbound US 141 traffic will be detoured to Shawano Avenue, take Shawano
Avenue east to northbound US 41 and follow northbound US 41 back to US 141
All lane restrictions and work operations are weather dependent and subject
to change.
Serious
Job Growth!
New actual
job count data shows Wisconsin gained almost 27,500 private-sector jobs from
September 2013 to September 2014, including the strongest two-year gain in
construction jobs in over a decade. In addition, quarterly wages by covered
private-sector employers grew by 3 percent over the same quarter in 2013.
Highlights from the
actual job counts, when compared to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS)
published data for 2014, include:
- Wisconsin added 27,489 private-sector jobs from September 2013 to
September 2014.
- Quarterly wages by covered private-sector employers grew by 3 percent year
over year.
- Wisconsin's manufacturing sector added close to 6,200 jobs over the
12-month period.
- Construction grew by 11.5 percent in 24 months, or 11,466 from September
2012 through September 2014.
Wisconsin is indeed
headed in the right direction!
Legislative Highlight: Wisconsin Sportsmen Caucus
On Wednesday I
attended the inaugural meeting of the Wisconsin Assembly Sportsmen Caucus.
This is a bipartisan group that advocates for individuals that enjoy outdoor
recreation in Wisconsin. When the notice came out to join, I jumped right
in!
One of the first
things we will look to pass is to allow food banks to take wild turkey, much
like they do with venison. I was surprised to hear that this legislation
even EXISTED!
I think that this
group is a great example of how Democrats and Republicans can work together
on issues that are important to Wisconsin!
