Jobs, dentists and a new video...

WDA Mission of Mercy Visit

This past week, Rep. Steffen and I toured the Wisconsin Dental   Association's Mission of Mercy in Fon du Lac.

Every year, members of the WDA provides free dental service to anyone that shows up. WDA provides the service without any government help. All professionals were there as volunteers and weren't compensated.

It's a great example of a group of people that decided "I must do something"   accomplishes more than "something must be done."

This year, 4,924 dental procedures were provided during the course of the two day event.

A Note from Rep. Macco:

We have the tools to create jobs in Wisconsin

All legislators support job creation programs. While we may disagree on what works best, we all agree our work is not finished until every Wisconsinite who wants a job is able to get a job.

I believe the Governor and Legislature have taken great steps in the past couple years. The business climate in Wisconsin is ripe for job creation. To see for yourself, head over to jobcenterofwisconsin.com to find the tens of thousands of jobs currently available. Right now, there are 80,000+ jobs available!

We need to grow our workforce to fill these jobs. There is a lot of work to be done. For starters, we need to erase the stigmas associated with some jobs. We need to tell our future leaders that manufacturing jobs are not dirty, dumb and dangerous, but instead are high paying, high rewarding and in high need.

We need to rethink how we talk about higher education. My generation made the mistake of telling the current generation that a person needs to go a 4-year university to be successful. I do believe every student should attend post-secondary education. However, Technical education is right for some students, and a four year university is right for others. Determining which path is right for a student depends on their gifts and the job outlook of future career fields.

Creating a better Wisconsin for our children and grandchildren begins with creating a sound financial Wisconsin at home and in the state Capitol. Job security is the first step in both.

Have a good week,

Macco on Mondays 6/22/2105: Transportation
