Remembering 9/11

This Sunday marks the ten year anniversary, on this day I am thankful for those who gave their lives that day while saving others; I am thankful for those who have given their lives each day since in defense of our freedom; and I am thankful to be an American.

I would like to encourage everyone to take some time to remember those who tragically lost their lives that day and to also find time to thank one of our many men and women who have served this country and our communities. Also take time to thank our local police officers, sheriffs, firefighters, and EMT's who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. Lastly, thank our veterans who continue to protect and serve this great nation.

Cell Phones for Soldiers

Representative Scott Krug will be hitting the airwaves to promote Cell Phones for Soldiers on September 16th at noon on WFHR with Carl Hilke and the first half hour of the September 30th" Morning Magazine" at 10:00.

Please call in at these times with any questions or concerns you might have for the Representative.

"Cell Phones for Soldiers are a very easy way for us to show our gratitude toward our service men and women who are serving away from their homes this summer," says Krug. "Keeping the lines of communication open between our service personnel and their loved ones is so important for morale, particularly during a time of year when many of us are taking the time to enjoy the summer with our own families."

Cell Phones for Soldiers were founded in 2004 by teenagers Brittany and Robbie Bergquist as a way for military families to keep in touch with family back home. To date they have collected more than 7.5 million cell phones and provided military personnel with more than 90 million minutes of pre-paid calling cards. The program's main revenue stream comes from the recycling of used cell phones.

“Bulls Eye Credit Union was gracious enough to help us be the collection point of this charity drive,” states Krug. “My sincerest thanks go to the employees and especially President David Stark for being so accommodating”

Collection dates will be from October 3rd through the 31st your Bulls Eye Credit Union locations on 8th street and Stevens Point.

Rep. Krug Statement on NewPage

Chapter 11 filing does not automatically mean jobs lost in our area

Madison – Today, Representative Krug released the following statement in response to NewPage Corporation’s announcement that it filed Chapter11 bankruptcy in federal court. NewPage employs close to 1700 workers in Central Wisconsin.

“We’ve been in close contact with the DWD, the Governor’s office, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and other Central Wisconsin legislators since the news of a possible restructuring came to light in the past few weeks. I spoke with Cliff Bowers of NewPage this afternoon and I appreciate their willingness to hold discussions as to what the future holds.

This is a business process that many companies find themselves in, especially in the past few years, our belief is that this does not necessarily spell out disaster for Wisconsin Rapids but instead can prove to be an opportunity to set up future prosperity. NewPage has secured funding and they will operate normally while they continue through this process.”

We also received word from Chris Bowers of NewPage and wanted us to pass on the information below.....

NewPage is committed to communicating with stakeholders throughout the restructuring. Accordingly, the Company has established a dedicated website, www.NewPageRestructuring.com, through which its stakeholders can access current information about the restructuring and the related legal filings.
