More than 500 old cell phones were
donated by area residents to support the Cell Phones for Soldiers
program, State Rep. Scott Krug (R-Wisconsin Rapids) and Bull's Eye
Credit Union President David Stark announced today at an event at
the Credit Union in Wisconsin Rapids.
The two
teamed up with AT&T to collect old cell phones from area residents
throughout the month of October to support Cell Phones for Soldiers
- a charity that uses recycling proceeds to buy and send free phone
cards to military members stationed away from home.
State
Rep. Krug said the program was a success and an easy way for area
residents to support and recognize the sacrifices our military men
and women make every day to serve our country.
"Our
soldiers serving overseas put their lives on the line for this
country every day, and this was the least we could do to support
their service," said Rep. Krug. "By recycling these old phones, we
are helping more of our military members stay connected with their
families - communication that is so important for the morale and
emotional health of our troops."
Bull's Eye Credit Union staff collected the phones at both the
Credit Union's 8th Street location in Wisconsin Rapids and its
branch in Stevens Point from October 3-31.
"We
were proud to partner with Rep. Krug and AT&T to support this worthy
program and make a difference for our troops serving overseas and
away from their families," said David Stark, President of Bull's Eye
Credit Union. "Recycling your old phone is a simple and easy way to
support our troops and show your gratitude for their service."

REP. KRUG: Legislation passed this Week to Improve
Wisconsin’s Business Climate

In Wisconsin, rather than throw money at our jobs problem,
the Republican controlled Assembly passed a series of bills that
will help increase economic development. Politicians of the past at
the state and federal level have relied on this strategy. It
doesn’t work, it doesn’t create jobs and Washington’s failed
stimulus policies prove it.
“Our rural communities
are the backbone of this great state,” said Krug, “I am proud to say
that I voted for a bill that will help increase development in the
agriculture industry and positively impact the rural areas
throughout Wisconsin.”
Special Session Senate
Bill 20 makes changes to agricultural production and loan guarantee
programs administered by the Wisconsin Housing and Economic
Development Authority. It increases the maximum loan principal
amount from $100,000 to $150,000.
Other bills to pass
the Assembly this week were a small business loan guarantee by the
Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority. It increases
the cap on the amount of a loan that may be guaranteed from $200,000
to $500,000 or 80% of the loan and increases the size of the
business that receives a loan from 50 to 250 full-time employees.
