News from Nancy!
Hello
Everyone!
I hope you all
are doing well and enjoying the beautiful summer weather. It's hard to
believe that summer is almost over and school will be starting back up soon.
There has been
a lot happening since the last time I sent an update. I have been doing my
best to attend as many events in the district as possible. It's always
motivating and informative meeting with constituents so please let me know
of any events or things goings on you think I should attend.
In Madison, I
have been working on legislation and attending committee hearings. This
week, I had the opportunity to testify on a piece of legislation I have been
working on.
This will be a
good opportunity to share some new information on that and fill you in on
what's been going on.
What's
Happening in Madison...
On Tuesday, I
testified before the members of the Assembly Committee on Health during
their hearing on legislation I have authored,
Assembly Bill
253.
This
legislation will enable Wisconsin to enter into an Interstate Medical
Licensure Compact, which will provide a new, expedited, licensing option for
physicians seeking to practice in multiple states.
It is
important to note that under this voluntary new licensing process, our state’s current
medical standards and oversight over the practice of medicine will remain
fully intact. There are no changes being proposed to state’s Medical
Practice Act. Physicians licensed through the Compact will still need to
continue to comply with all laws, rules and regulations of the state in
which the patient is located.
The main reasons this legislation is important: First, it will allow for
streamlined licensing, lower compliance costs and reduced barriers. Second,
it will increase access to health care, and help to alleviate the physician
shortage in our state, especially in rural areas like the 70th Assembly
District.

Public Education Commendation
A few weeks
back, the Sparta Area School District Board of Education presented me with a
commendation for supporting public education during the legislative budget
process.
It truly is an
honor to be commended by the
Sparta Area School District Board of
Education. I appreciate the support and communication from them and all of
the school districts in the 70th Assembly District through out the
legislative process.
When I
announced my candidacy for the state Assembly, there were a handful of
things I pledged to tackle if I were to be lucky enough to be elected. One
of those items was finding ways to reinvest and renew our state’s support in
public education. I will continue to be an independent voice on education
and advocate to find ways to invest in the future of our children.
Tomah Receives State Designation
As Connect Community
I want to
congratulate the City of Tomah and the Greater Tomah Area Chamber of
Commerce for being selected to be a part of the Connect Community
program through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC).
Being accepted into the Connect Communities program gives Tomah the
opportunity to receive the resources that will be beneficial to reaching the
goal of enhancing and revitalizing downtown. The available resources like
technical assistance, networking opportunities and connections to financial
and technical assistance programs will go a long way to reaching that goal.
As State Representative for the 70th Assembly District, local business owner
and resident of Tomah, I know firsthand the community’s commitment towards
improving and enhancing the downtown and commercial areas of Tomah. I look
forward to the future opportunities that this foundation for success can
bring to our community.

Around the District
Spirit of '45 Celebration
Last Friday,
marked the 70th Anniversary since Americans and our allies around the world
received word of their victory, ending six years of conflict knows as World
War II, on August 14, 1945.
I
had the distinct honor and privilege to attend and present a citation at the
Spirit of ’45 celebration in Stevens Point. The event commemorated the 70th
Anniversary of the End of World War II and honored Portage County’s World
War II Veterans. Pictured with me is Will Lehner, he was on board the ship
in Pearl Harbor that fired the first shots in WWII. It was touching and
fascinating to hear incredible stories like that from our veterans.
WSCGA Summer Field Day
On August 5th,
I attended the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association Field Day,
Meeting & Tradeshow at the Wisconsin River Cranberry Company in Nekoosa.
Wisconsin is the nation’s leading producer of cranberries, harvesting more
than 60 percent of the country’s crop. For generations, harvesting and
producing cranberries has played a pivotal role in building and shaping
communities throughout central Wisconsin.
Sherry's Antique Tractor Show
On July 28, I
attended the 9th Annual Antique Tractor Show hosted by the Sherry Tired Iron
Tractor Club at Anderton Park in Sherry. All the proceeds from the event
will go to sponsoring Tractor Safety in Auburndale and Marshfield High
Schools and community improvements.
Sincerely,
