Affordable Care Act

Changes to enrollment in Medicaid/BadgerCare will be effective January 1, 2014, and in preparation, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) will be sending letters to current Medicaid/BadgerCare recipients. DHS will send letters to all recipients who could be impacted by the changes on January 1, informing them of the state health insurance exchange. Those losing Medicaid benefits would have until December 15 to apply for uninterrupted coverage starting January 1 through the insurance exchange.

Two websites, healthcare.gov and e4healthwi.org, can help answer some of your questions about shopping on the insurance exchange. Should you have additional questions, you may contact your county human services department. Additionally, Chippewa and Dunn counties are part of the Great Rivers Consortium, and you can request services at any of the county agencies within your consortium. Their toll-free number is (888) 283-0012.

Reminder: Listening Session Wednesday

Just as a reminder, I will be joining Sen. Terry Moulton for a constituent listening session on October 2. I look forward to meeting with constituents and hearing your top priorities as the fall session gets going. As always, you can call, write or email my office to share your comments on legislative issues as well. I hope to see you there!

Congratulations Title I Schools

Wisconsin Title I School Program recognizes success in educating students from low-income families. A school can receive the award in three ways: by demonstrating high levels of achievement, by greatly reducing the achievement gap, or by having above-average achievement when compared to similar schools (referred to as “beating the odds”).

It is an honor to announce that three schools from the 67th Assembly District have earned a Wisconsin Title I School Recognition Award for the 2013-2014 academic year. As I have stated before, we have a great public education system here in our district, and I appreciate the work of all of our teachers and administrators in giving our children a first-class education. Schools awarded are:

Cornell Elementary School

Holcombe Elementary School

New Auburn Junior/Senior High School

Congratulations, and keep up the good work!
