Governor
Walker Signs Budget, Makes Vetoes
On Sunday, June 30, Governor Walker
signed the state budget bill into law as
2013
Act 20. The Governor used his authority
to veto 57 items within the budget. Two of the most notable vetoes
are provisions that would have created a private bail bond program in
select counties and another that would have removed the Center for
Investigative Journalism from the UW-Madison campus.
DHS Town Hall
Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services
(DHS) will be holding three public information sessions to provide
information about the
BadgerCare Plus Demonstration Project Waiver. These town hall events
are part of the state’s application to the federal government for a
waiver to expand BadgerCare Plus. The expansion, which is part of the
budget in lieu of a Medicaid expansion, would extend health care
coverage to all adults ages 19-64 without dependent children and with an
income at or below 100% of the federal poverty level. All comments will
be shared with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The
town hall in our area will be in Eau Claire:
Wednesday, July 10
11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Chippewa Valley Technical College
Health Education Center
615 W. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire
*If you need special accommodations to
attend, please notify DHS at (608)266-9622 by July 9.
If you cannot attend the meeting, but would
still like to make your comments heard, you may send an email to
DHSBCDemonstrationWaiver@dhs.wisconsin.gov, send a fax to (608) 266-1096
or
submit comments online. DHS will not take comments after July 30.
Office Closed
Just as a reminder, my Madison office
will be closed in observance of Independence Day on July 4 and July 5.
Have a
safe and happy 4th of July holiday!
