Final Budget
Hearing and Additional Resources
Yesterday, Thursday, April 18, I
participated in the Joint Finance Committee’s (JFC) public hearing on the
2013-2015 budget proposal,
Assembly Bill 40.
The hearing was held at Baldwin-Woodville High School in Baldwin.
I was delighted to see such a high turnout and to hear your budget
priorities. I also had the opportunity to chair the hearing for a
few minutes!
Now that its public hearings are
complete, JFC will begin to vote on
specific agency budget provisions
next Thursday.
The executive session process will continue for several weeks.
If you were unable to attend
one of the hearings, you may still submit your budget comments to JFC at
BudgetComments@legis.wisconsin.gov.

Posters in the
Rotunda
On
Wednesday, April 17, the UW System held its annual “Posters in the Rotunda”
event, allowing students from across the UW System to showcase their
research projects with legislators and the community. I met with current students, alumni, and faculty from several UW System
schools, including Eau Claire and River Falls, and I find it inspiring to
see what great things students from around the district are doing. Thank you
to all who participated and shared their research.

Condolences to
Those Affected by the Tragedy in Boston
As news
about the tragic attacks this past Monday at the Boston Marathon unfolds, I
would like to extend my deepest sympathies and prayers to all of those
affected. The Boston Marathon is a national – even international – event
that brings people together from around the world. It is truly a senseless
tragedy that someone would even think about committing such a heinous act. My
heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes out to all first responders and
bystanders who volunteered their efforts. The heroism of each individual
American is what makes this country so great.
"Moments like these—terrible as they are—don't show our weakness, they show
our strength."
