Last Wednesday, November 11, Governor
Walker signed
Assembly
Bill 324, which I introduced with Sen. Terry Moulton and Rep. Kathy
Bernier. I was
joined by my friends Richard and Diane Rust of Menomonie, with whom I
had traveled to Milwaukee the day before to attend the presidential
debate and who were kind enough to bring to me the Capitol for the bill
signing and a committee hearing.
Extraordinary Session
As I mentioned in
my last E-Update, the Senate met in extraordinary session on Friday,
November 6, to concur in the Assembly proposals to reform Wisconsin's
campaign finance laws and the Government Accountability Board,
Assembly
Bills 387 and
388,
respectively. The Senate amended both bills, so the Assembly met
on
Monday, November 16, to concur in those amendments, as well as a
number of other bills. The Legislative Council has prepared memos
describing the amendments, all of which the Assembly concurred in:
Senate Amendment 1 to AB 387 and
Senate Amendments 1 and 2 to AB 388. AB 387 and AB 388 will
now go to Governor Walker for his signature.
Northwoods Timber Tour
Last Thursday, November 12, I joined
several of my Assembly colleagues on a tour of businesses involved in
Wisconsin's timber industry, including a logging site, a lumber mill in
Antigo, and a mill in Tomahawk that makes paper for cardboard boxes. The timber industry is a
major
component of
Wisconsin's economy, and I appreciated the opportunity to get an
up-close look at how it operates.
