Posters in the Rotunda

Last week Wednesday, the UW System hosted the annual Posters in the Rotunda here in Madison. Students from two- and four-year colleges across the UW System set up displays in the Capitol Rotunda to showcase their undergraduate research. This year, as always, had some incredibly impressive research projects that have direct relevance on people’s lives in the 67th Assembly District and throughout the state.

Thank you to constituents Chris Galetka from Colfax and Karen Gjelhaug from Holcombe for sharing your research with me. Chris attends UW-Stout and researched the finances of modern-day college students. Karen attends UW-River Falls and presented her work in vegetable production using high tunnels. The accomplishments of the students in our district never cease to amaze me – keep up the great work!

As part of the Posters in the Rotunda, UW-Eau Claire Chancellor James Schmitt stopped by my office with student presenters to further share about research initiatives and issues of interest to the university as a whole. I very much enjoyed our visit together and thank everyone that took time out from their day in the rotunda to come down to my office.

Upcoming Session

The Assembly will go into session later this afternoon to discuss a variety of legislation. Prior to session, you can find a schedule of bills to be discussed through the Legislature’s InSession webpage. Additionally, you can watch live or previously recorded sessions on Wisconsin Eye.

Dunn County Farm Bureau Meeting

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a joint meeting with several western Wisconsin County Farm Bureaus. We heard from a guest speaker, Mary Kay Thatcher, from the American Farm Bureau to discuss national issues impacting agriculture, and also had a chance for some general discussion and Q&A.

Consumer Alert: Eviction Email Scam

Last Friday, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection (DATCP) issued a warning about fraudulent eviction notices sent via email. These email messages claim that the recipient is being removed “due to multiple violations.” To view details of these so-called violations, the email guides users to an attached file that likely contains malicious software that will infect your computer. DATCP advises recipients to delete these emails immediately without opening the attachment.

Please note that under current Wisconsin law, it is illegal for eviction notices to be sent via email. For more information, please visit DATCP’s website or call the Consumer Information Hotline toll-free at (800) 422-7128.
