Dear
Friends and Neighbors, |
Celebrating the
life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr.
|
I look forward to honoring the life and
legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at
several community events in Racine next
week. Dr. King’s effort in the struggle
for racial equality and economic justice
remains an incredibly important and
crucial point in American history. A
fierce urgency to achieve justice for
all men and women fueled Dr. King’s
vision to make our nation live out the
true meaning of the words etched in the
preamble to our Constitution: “We hold
these truths to be self-evident: that
all men are created equal."
|
That vision extended
beyond racial divisions, as Dr. King saw
not only racial injustice, but extreme
disparities between rich and poor as
well. He envisioned a world where all
labor was treated with dignity and
workers were paid a living wage. It’s in
that spirit that I plan to re-introduce
Wisconsin’s Fair Minimum Wage Act during
this session, which gradually raises our
state’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.

Rep. Cory Mason
registers against the Assembly
Republicans' School Sanctions Bill
|
Yesterday, Republicans
held a hearing on their School Sanctions
bill, which would allow public schools
to be taken over by private charter
schools. At least 11 Racine Schools
would be taken over under the bill.
|
“Without a doubt,
Assembly Republicans' sanctions bill is
an unprecedented attack on public
schooling in our state. Their bill does
nothing to address the real needs of
students at the local level and
completely strips decision making from
local school districts,” said Rep. Cory
Mason. “While Democrats are committed to
improving schools and increasing
opportunities for students in Wisconsin,
the other side of the aisle fails to
meet our constitutional mandate to
adequately educate every child.”

Sincerely, |
|
