Dear Friends and Neighbors, Per state
regulations that limit correspondence during an election
year, this will be my last E-Update until after the fall
election.
This by no means limits my ability to help constituents;
my office is still available to help you with
whatever state or local issues you may have. If you
haven't already, be sure to follow me on
Facebook and
Twitter, as I will still be posting
regularly on social
media.
As the fall election draws nearer, I
encourage you to be informed about candidates and voter
ID laws, and also urge you to engage in the democratic process by
voting!

Poster Day in
the Rotunda
Each year I look forward to Poster Day in the
Rotunda, when UW System students are invited to
the Capitol to present their research to the
public. This year I met with students from UW-Parkside who were presenting research on food
security and differences in personalities and
leadership strategies among other intriguing
topics. It is always so energizing to meet with
the students who will soon become leaders in our
state.

Waukesha
Diversion Update
As many of you know, I have
actively opposed the City of Waukesha's request
to divert Lake
Michigan's water and send treated sewage back to
Lake Michigan through Racine's Root River. The
Root River is already designated as impaired by the US
Environmental Protection Agency. During the
public comment period, over 11,200 public
comments were submitted to the Regional Body of
the Great Lakes Compact, an overwhelming 99% of which
indicated opposition or serious concerns about
Waukesha's proposal. I would like to thank those
of you who contributed your
concerns in order to protect our local natural
resources. All comments received have been
archived and are available for public
consumption
here. The Compact Council will meet
later this summer to decide whether or not to
accept the proposal; unanimous consent from the
Great Lakes Governors is required for approval.
