New Artwork in My Madison Office

I've been enjoying new pieces of beautiful artwork by Kenosha-area artists that decorates the walls of my Madison office. Through the generosity of the Lemon Street Gallery in Kenosha, I have received four new pieces of art on loan to decorate the walls here in the Capitol building. The works in my office were made by artists Mary Neely, Randy Urry, Diana Becker, and James Foster. The Lemon Street Gallery is not only an art gallery, but a non-profit arts organization that also provides art classes, hosts events, and provides resources to local artistsand art enthusiasts. If you find yourself in Madison, feel free to stop by my office and see what's on display!

"No Call" Law Now Includes Unsolicited Text Messages

Have you ever received spam text messages on your cell phone? This session, the legislature passed 2011 Wisconsin Act 197, which protects consumers from unwanted text messages by adding text communication to the No Call List. Wisconsin's No Call Law helps prevent residents from receiving intrusive and fraudulent sales calls. Text solicitations are now also unlawful. To sign up for No Call protections, you may register by visiting nocall.wisconsin.gov,  or by calling 866-9NO-CALL (866-966-2255). Registration lasts 2 years, but you may renew and extend your registration at any time. Updated lists of registered numbers are sent to telemarketers quarterly. If you have already registered for the list, you are automatically also registered for text protection. Don't neglect to register both your home and mobile phone numbers. Remember that messages from non-profits, market research groups, and political organizations, or contacts made in response to a request for solicitation, are not covered by the law.

Reminder: Recycling Opportunities

Just a reminder that there are several upcoming opportunities in our area to dispose of non-traditional garbage. Paddock Lake will be offering free disposal of electronics/appliances and Kenosha County will have an event for free disposal of hazardous waste. This is a great opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted items and chemicals that are not allowed in landfills. See below for specific information about each event:

  • Kenosha County will host an event for free environmentally-friendly disposal of hazardous waste products. Acceptable items include cleaning products, bug sprays, oil based paints, vehicle fluids, fluorescent bulbs, pool or garden/outdoor chemicals, etc. The one-day event will be Saturday, 5/5 from 8am-1pm at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol. For more information including a full list of accepted items, call Kenosha County Emergency Management at 262-605-7900.

  • Paddock Lake will also host a free county-wide recycling event for old electronics on Saturday, 5/19 from 9am-2pm at the Paddock Lake Village Hall. Bring your unwanted TV's, computers, monitors, stereos, printers, phones, fax machines, etc. for proper disposal. For more information, contact the Paddock Lake Village Hall at 262-843-2713.
