Scholarship Opportunities The Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation will be offering up to 4 scholarships this year to students graduating from high school in Kenosha County. Each award amounts up to $2,500 to be applied to tuition at a 4-year college or technical college. The applicant's parent/guardian must be employed by a member employer of the Kenosha County Chamber of Commerce for the student to be eligible. For a full list requirements and an application, click here. I encourage all eligible students to apply for this wonderful opportunity.
Also, students planning to attend Carthage College should consider applying for the Dr. F. Gregory Campbell Kenosha County Scholarship. This scholarship, worth $5,000, is awarded to a Kenosha County student who demonstrates involvement in extracurricular and community activities.
Bill's Passage Betters Child Welfare Laws I'm proud to report that a bill that I co-authored, Senate Bill 502, just passed in both houses of the Legislature last week and is on its way to be signed into law by the Governor. SB 502 implements new best practices into our state's laws governing child welfare. The bill's passage allows Wisconsin to retain its full amount of federal dollars for child welfare, while improving the system for our state's youth in out-of-home care. Donate to Our Troops Overseas A local business is collecting donations of needed items to send to the 2nd Marines, 5th Battalion that is currently deployed in Afghanistan. There are over 1,200 soldiers in this unit, and they have requested a number of practical supplies that are not provided by the military. In addition to material supplies, monetary donations are needed to cover the substantial costs of shipping the items to the soldiers. Alan Musilek of Defensive Driving Specialists is coordinating this effort. For a list of requested items and how to donate, click here. Meeting with Visitors at the Capitol I recently met with the Kenosha County Constitutional Officers here at the Capitol. We had a great discussion about some important local issues.

Also, I was happy to greet Salem Grade School when they came to visit the Capitol last week. The students toured the building and learned more about our state government. It was a great visit!
