STATE OF THE STATE
State Representative Keith Ripp (R-Lodi) issued the following statement in response to Governor Scott Walker’s State of the State Address.
“Tuesday night, Governor Walker celebrated our accomplishments while also outlining his plans for our state’s future. Over the last two years, we worked diligently to tackle a $3.6 billion budget deficit, to improve Wisconsin’s business environment, and to help our state’s employers create jobs. Today, we have a $342 million budget surplus and the unemployment rate has dropped from 9 percent to 6.7 percent. I am proud of the work we have done, but there is still more that we need to do. We must continue to prove that Wisconsin is business friendly and worth investing in.
“Governor Walker also described his top five priorities for this session. One of those priorities is to invest in our infrastructure. As Chairman of the Transportation Committee, I am really encouraged by the Governor’s attention and dedication to our state’s transportation system. Wisconsin’s industries and economy truly rely on our infrastructure, and it is critical that we maintain it.
“I am enthusiastic about Governor Walker’s goals for the next two years and eager to get back to work. It is so important for my district and our great state that we use our time at the Capitol to continue to move our state forward. I will continue to do everything I can to promote job creation, transparency in our government, and making life better for Wisconsin’s citizens.”
ASSEMBLY RULE CHANGES
Last week, the Assembly passed a few rule changes on the floor that will increase government transparency and help you as taxpayers hold us as legislators more accountable.
As you may know, in previous years, floor
sessions and debates on bills could often go late into the
night and early morning. That also required those who wanted
to watch these debates to stay up late as well. With the new
rule changes, we will no longer be having overnight sessions. It is important to make sure that the public has the ability
to participate in every aspect of the legislative process.
As in the past I would continue to encourage
you to contact my office with ideas for this next
legislative session and on individual pieces of
legislation. Now more than ever your ideas and opinions
need to be heard, so we can begin to get Wisconsin back to
work. As before I will continue to work across the aisle to
find common ground and move legislation forward. Please do
not hesitate to contact my office at (608) 266-3404, or Rep.Ripp@legis.wisconsin.gov.
Please share this
update with your friends and neighbors within the 42nd
Assembly District and if there is anyone you know who
would like to be included please respond to this email with
their email address. I want to remind everyone that my door is
always open and you can always visit me at my Madison office
in the Capitol (223 North).
