Governor Walker holds second State of the State I issued the following statement in response to Governor Walkers State of the State. "Tonight Governor Walker spoke to where this state has been and where it is going. Over the last year Governor Walker and the Legislature have tackled a $3.6 billion deficit, kept property taxes to the lowest increase in 15 years, repaid the raid on the Patient’s Compensation Fund, and paid Wisconsin’s debt to Minnesota all without mass layoffs or accounting gimmicks. Wisconsin now has a strong budgetary platform to build from for future generations. While this state has faced difficult challenges, many still remain. Our state continues to suffer from a lack of leadership in Washington, the uncertainty of the recalls remains, and our school children struggle with reading. With the inclusion of my Dyslexia legislation, I’m optimistic that Governor Walker’s Education Task Force reforms will raise the bar and elevate our educational standards. Wisconsin could again be a national leader in reading proficiency. I remain confident we are moving the state in the right direction and look forward to facing our shared challenges together."
