Unemployment Rate Drops
State Representative Joan Ballweg (R- Markesan)
chair of the Committee of Labor and Workforce Development commented
on a release by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In April 2011, the unemployment rate was 7.5
percent in Wisconsin, the unemployment rate declined to 6.7 percent
in April 2012.
Due to our state having three consecutive
months with the unemployment rate under 7 percent, we no longer
qualify for the 13-week tier 3 federal unemployment compensation
program. This is according to regulations put forth by the US
Department of Labor, with these changes; the number of weeks that a
person will be eligible to collect UI benefits will be 60 weeks,
instead of 73 weeks.
Department of Workforce Development with be
sending letters to claimants to inform them of the changes.
“With the rate dropping continuously and the
positive job growth numbers for 2011, plus potential savings from
this change shows our Wisconsin initiatives are working,” stated
Ballweg.
Wisconsin Picnic at the Governor’s Request
State Representative Joan Ballweg (R- Markesan)
released the following statement about the “Brat Summit” held on
Tuesday.
“My husband Tom and I along with my staff
attended the picnic at the Governor’s Mansion; we had a wonderful
time talking with other legislators and staff. There were almost 100
legislators from both political parties. It is my belief that this
social gathering will be the first step to working out our
differences and having a good working relationship in the future.
“The day was filled with conversation, food and
drink donated by local businesses served up by our Governor. Thank
you to the Governor and the businesses that donated the food.”
