Annual Joan Ballweg Leadership Scholarship
Winners
State Representative Joan Ballweg
(R-Markesan) presented the last three of six scholarship winners
last week. The Representative made visits to Green Lake and Markesan
High Schools.
These scholarships are awarded to
individuals who demonstrate a balance in their activities, achieve
good grades and are outstanding role models and leaders among their
peers.
Michelle Schrader, a student at
Green Lake High School, is a proven leader as president of her
senior class, Student Council, and captain of the basketball team.
Along with representing her school on the National Honor Society,
Michelle has been active in many fundraisers and volunteered in her
community. One of her recommendation letters read: “Michelle has a
boundless capacity for growth. She is already an organized,
effective leader with poise and a strong work ethic.”
Abigail Chisnell, a student at
Markesan High School, has represented her school at Badger Girls
State and has been active in many fundraisers, and organized her own
at school. The “Poverty Stops Here” fundraiser raised $750 for a
village in Nigeria. One of her recommendation letters read: “Abbey
is a leader – in every sense of the word. She is committed, focused,
and self-disciplined.”
Katherine Hazelwood, also a
student at Markesan High School, has been a proven leader for her
dance team, the marching band, and the Markesan High School Student
Council. While representing her church on various mission trips,
Katherine takes her responsibility as leader seriously; ensuring her
group or club is effectively living out their mission. One of her
recommendation letters read: “Seeing the world as interconnected is
one of Katie’s strong character traits, which leads me to believe
she is a born leader.”
“It was an honor to reward
students that took on a leadership role in their high school,”
states Ballweg. “My hope is they will continue their leadership
roles in college and with their future employers.”
