Education Reform in
Wisconsin
Another focus for 2012 is the
education reform package brought forth by Governor Walker.
The Governor has worked with Superintendent Evers and legislators to
improve education in Wisconsin. There is great value in the
reforms that are being discussed such as in early screening of
students and rigorous testing for our teachers. The three task
forces explained below will be key in reestablishing Wisconsin as a
leader in education.
Read to Lead is an idea
to improve Wisconsin's reading achievements in our schools. It will
require the state Department of Public Instruction to improve the
rigor of the licensure exam for new elementary school reading
teachers and coaches by 2013-14.
School accountability
will ensure that all parents have an easy to understand transparent
grading system they can use to hold their neighborhood schools
accountable.
Educator Effectiveness
is comprised of a task force that will create a framework for
evaluating teachers and principals based on more than just a
standardized test. It will be used to ensure that teachers who take
on difficult assignments get the support they need.
