Rep. Hutton’s Statement on Passage of “Mining for Jobs” Bill

[Madison, Wis.] - Rep. Hutton released the following statement regarding the passage of the “Mining for Jobs” bill.

“Today, I voted in favor of SB 1 along with the Assembly Republicans, to update Wisconsin’s mining laws making them applicable to the 21st century. We have paved a path for thousands of jobs in Wisconsin while still upholding Wisconsin’s strict environmental standards.

“We now have the potential to help an area that is in desperate need of employment opportunities. The economic booster shot to this region would create many direct jobs in construction and mining along with jobs in the service and health care industry. This legislation will reach all the way to the south eastern part of the state where manufacturing and transportation companies will see a higher demand for their products and services.

“I am eager to watch Wisconsin continue to move forward as this mining legislation provides a safe and responsible way to create jobs.”

The Wisconsin State Assembly passed the “Mining for Jobs” bill, first introduced in the 2013-2014 legislative session, by a vote of 58-39 in the first week of March and on Monday, March 11, 2013; Governor Walker signed the bill into law. This legislation will update Wisconsin’s mining regulations and will provide businesses with the confidence to invest in Wisconsin while also upholding environmental protections. This bill will deliver long-term benefits to the mining counties and could impact the entire state.

Elmbrook Schools Showcase Talent and Dedication to Education

Elmbrook Middle School Excellence in the Arts
I want to make a special mention of the Elmbrook Middle Schools for showcasing their impressive music skills and talent this past February with two remarkable musicals. Wisconsin Hills Middle School presented Bye Bye Birdie followed by the Pilgrim Park Middle School’s production of The Little Mermaid, Jr. Both shows were considered outstanding successes by the audience members and the student participants.

Elmbrook High Schools Honored Again with ACT Red Quill Legacy Award
Congratulations to Brookfield East and Brookfield Central High Schools for receiving the ACT Red Quill Legacy Award yet again for 2012-2013. The prestigious award honors educational institutions that have increased their students’ academic achievement through commitment to thorough data analysis and the development of curriculum and instruction in response to their findings. The Brookfield High Schools have won the award more than any other district since the program began five years ago, and both schools reported historic highs for ACT composite scores, ranking them in the top ten percent of all of Wisconsin’s public schools.
