Joint Committee on Finance Approves Increased Funding for Farmer Mental Health

State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Finance released the following statement:

“Today, the Joint Committee on Finance voted to approve additional funding for farmer mental health counseling and services.

“Today’s action provided DATCP $200,000 for increased farmer mental health access over the next two years. Annually, the Department plans to dedicate $25,000 for counseling vouchers, $50,000 for workshops for farmers, and $25,000 for workshops to train mental health providers on how to address the challenges the farm community faces.

“I look forward to continuing to work on addressing the mental health crisis facing our state and eagerly anticipate the recommendations put forward by the Speaker’s Task Force on Suicide Prevention.”
