Capitol Update

It’s been a while since I wrote to you. That’s because Wisconsin has an ethics law which prohibits a Representative or Senator from sending out more than 49 pieces of identical mail from their office during an election year. This law ensures no state resources are used for campaign purposes.

I am honored to continue representing your voice down in Madison. There’s no denying it’s been a tough year for all of us – especially for our small business owners. I am hopeful the legislature will soon meet for a second COVID-19 relief bill in the coming months as the Governor introduced legislation this week. Given the legislature hasn’t met since April, I am more than ready to pass meaningful legislation for struggling Wisconsinites.

Unemployment Updates

Since March, my office has helped hundreds of people in our community who have been out of work receive their unemployment. I have talked to my staff and understand the unemployment system here in Wisconsin is very frustrating. No one should have to wait hours on the phone to only be disconnected after a minute and no one should have to wait over three months to receive pending payments. Finding solutions to fix the backlog of unemployment cases and the outdated system will be among one of my top priorities as I prepare for the 2021-2022 legislative session.

If you are one of many who exhausted your regular Unemployment Insurance benefits and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, you may be eligible for an additional 13 weeks of benefits through the Extended Benefits program.

  • I will note that the Extended Benefits don’t apply to those collecting Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).

Please reach out to my office at 608-266-0631 or by email if you are having trouble receiving your unemployment. Just hit the reply button and my staff will make sure you receive your unemployment in a timely manner.

COVID-19 Update

Wisconsin continues to have records being broken nearly every day or every other day, with no sign of the virus slowing down. Our hospitals throughout the state are overwhelmed and reaching a breaking point.

I highly encourage you to stay home, wear a mask in public, and take the necessary precautions to help flatten the curve. We are in this fight together and the only way we get back to normal is if we all do our part.

Until next time,

Steve
