Capitol Update

I was hoping to get back to work shortly after the election to help Wisconsinites struggling with COVID-19, but legislative leaders made it clear they're not willing to come back into session this year to debate the recent COVID-19 relief bill the Governor has introduced. This decision by legislative leaders is disappointing to say the least - the pandemic shouldn't be a partisan issue.

Caucus Whip Position

I'm no longer serving our caucus as Democratic Vice-Chair, as I decided to not seek re-election for that position. However, just today, Minority Leader Hintz appointed me to serve as Caucus Whip.

I'm very excited to continue my work as a legislative leader in the Wisconsin State Assembly. It's always been my number one priority to bring people to the table and initiate a bipartisan discussion on how we can move Wisconsin forward. That priority will never go away - I remain committed to changing the nasty political climate down in Madison. I'm ready to get to work as Caucus Whip.

COVID-19 Update

I recently had the opportunity to participate in webinar where a number of medical professionals discussed their current day-to-day experiences as hospital workers during this pandemic. The stories were absolutely heartbreaking and eye-opening. It shows the reality and the vast amount of pain COVID-19 is inflicting on families in our community and across the state.

From the bottom of my heart and for all the medical professionals I heard from, I'm asking you to continue wearing a mask and practice social distancing as much as possible. I want to see our community get back to normal as much as you, but we need all hands on deck in order to accomplish this goal. Let's work together with The Wisconsin Hospital Association and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Unemployment Updates

Since March, my office has helped hundreds of people in our community who have been out of work receive their unemployment. I have talked to my staff and understand the unemployment system here in Wisconsin is very frustrating. No one should have to wait hours on the phone to only be disconnected after a minute and no one should have to wait over three months to receive pending payments. Finding solutions to fix the backlog of unemployment cases and the outdated system will be among one of my top priorities as I prepare for the 2021-2022 legislative session.

Please reach out to my office at 608-266-0631 or by email if you are having trouble receiving your unemployment. Just hit the reply button and my staff will make sure you receive your unemployment in a timely manner.

Until next time,

Steve
